Nah, its just that there isn't a lot of mobs of pure monks. There are plenty of large groups of sins, paragons, rangers, warriors, basically every profession that can be farmed (think vermin farming for sin tomes, termite farming for warrior ones, shrieker farming for paragon ones). How many large groups of just monks do you see? Not many. Usually there are only one or two monks in a group playing a supporting role, not whole mobs full of them.

Most people are too lazy to cap themselves, therefore they must have tomes to make things easier.

I wouldnt, because then I would have to :

1. Make sure my character was that far.
2. Cap the skill.

I must have missed something, but the regular tomes are pretty useless if you have another character that has already unlocked the skill---I noticed that my mo/n unlocked all the nf necro skills so that my necro only had to get to yohlon haven (I think it was) and all of the necro reg skills were available to her...of course if you can get the tomes for cheap then you dont need to spend the 1plat for the skill, but still, thats not much of a savings. Now elite tomes I can understand (especially some of the stupid places to have to cap).

Why the hell would you pay 1k for a tome when you could just go to Lions Arch and pay 1k and buy the skill directly?

Saturated market. Supply versus demand sets the price, not the price of skills at the trainer (it has an effect on the price yes, but it doesn't dictate them).

really i think it comes down to supply and demand people want them but more people need to sell them so they lower prices to beat the competition which leaves it at an average price of 600g

Then again, that would mean you'd have to do that for ALL elite skills you want, and you end up doing the storyline do cap the skills, to save a good 100k+ really. I get tomes for things like Maw, or Savannah Heat, as I simply don't want to go out that far.

Factions or Nightfall-only skill perhaps?

I don't like trading as it is, so i still tend to just go and buy a skill from a skill trainer, have so many skill points on my main that i don't miss them.

I use tomes as i find them on my primary characters as i have fully unlocked all the skills with PvP playing on and off.

If i was desperatly wanting to save money however i would certainly consider buying a bunch of tomes for 500g each. and if i had no skill points then i would also consider it in order to put it on a younger character

If you have only Factions, but have PvP packs for Prophecies and nightfall, then it's the only way to get those skills on your PvE character.

55HP in Gates of Kryta = good Necro, Warrior, Mesmer and sometimes Ele tomes.

Yea exactly, I would rather fish for the skills myself, instead of paying 10k for an elite O_o. 500g, heck 700g would be better then that stupid 1k cost :-(. Plus you can't get it from skill quests.

If you only have the PvP unlock packs, they shouldn't be available for your PvE character at all.
